Our First major Project

The building at 563 New Jersey Street was the first major project. This building fronts Broad Street. Now that it has been preserved, the facility serves as a meeting place and eventually will be incorporated into Mobile's Mardi Gras celebration. Mardi Gras is the single largest annual event in Mobile and a very large source to tax revenue. Now that it has been completely renovated, the space can host events, gatherings and meetings of fairly large groups. The fundraising that has already taken place has restored this structure and now BSRS’s hope it to extend this success into the nearby community.

By preserving this building and improving the surrounding land, energy will come to an area that presently is neglected and largely run-down. The target site sits between downtown Mobile and the Brookley Aerospace complex. Hopefully, preserving just one part of this historic area will lead to further development and investment.

Join in Our Mission

Historic preservation is economic development. Taking a blighted building or city block and turning it into something better certainly leads to economic development by others. It can fundamentally change the make-up of a neighborhood, leading to all manner of benefit for those who live, work or worship in the area. It also creates civic pride: a very fleeting emotion that is often just below the surface, but needs a spark to become ignited.
