The BSRS Mission

Our mission is to serve as the catalyst for future historic preservation and bring energy to an area that is presently neglected and largely run down by renovating and preserving a neglected building and surrounding land in one of mobile's oldest neighborhoods.

Why We Exist

The concept behind Broad Street Restoration Society, Inc. ("BSRS") is twofold. First, the idea is to acquire land and a neglected building in one of Mobile's oldest neighborhoods and bring it back to life. Second, the preservation of this building will spur civic pride, other investment and preservation in the same part of the City of Mobile.

The Board Street corridor is one of Mobile's oldest and most historic neighborhoods. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most neglected. By renovating and preserving just one block of this area could serve as the catalyst for future historic preservation. Something (or someone) has to be first and start the process. BSRS is willing to step up.

Our First major Project

The building at 563 S. Broad Street was the first major project. This building fronts Broad Street. Now that it has been preserved, the facility serves as a meeting place and eventually will be incorporated into Mobile's Mardi Gras celebration. Mardi Gras is the single largest annual event in Mobile and a very large source to tax revenue. Now that it has been completely renovated, the space can host events, gatherings and meetings of fairly large groups. The fundraising that has already taken place has restored this structure and now BSRS’s hope it to extend this success into the nearby community.

Join in Our Mission

Historic preservation is economic development. Taking a blighted building or city block and turning it into something better certainly leads to economic development by others. It can fundamentally change the make-up of a neighborhood, leading to all manner of benefit for those who live, work or worship in the area. It also creates civic pride: a very fleeting emotion that is often just below the surface, but needs a spark to become ignited.
